Introduction
Pregnancy is often spoken about as a purely physical journey—a process of growing life, measured in medical milestones and routine check-ups. But what if pregnancy, birth, and motherhood were also deeply transformative experiences of embodiment, self-trust, and personal sovereignty? In this blog post, I want to share my personal journey through pregnancy, how I’ve embraced embodiment in the process, and why I ultimately made the decision to step away from the traditional medical system in favor of a more intuitive approach to birth.
The Power of Embodiment
As a feminine embodiment coach, my work is centered around reconnecting with the body’s wisdom—honoring its signals, tuning into intuition, and allowing it to guide us through life’s transitions. Embodiment is not just about physical presence; it’s about fully inhabiting our experiences, making choices that align with our deepest truth, and stepping away from conditioned responses that don’t serve us.
This perspective has become even more profound during my pregnancy, where the ability to trust my body, listen to its wisdom, and make aligned choices has been at the forefront of my experience.
A Pregnancy Rooted in Self-Trust
When I first found out I was pregnant, I followed the standard UK protocol—I registered with the NHS, attended my early midwife appointments, and assumed I would navigate pregnancy within the conventional system. However, I quickly realized that my needs and desires were not being met.
Appointments felt impersonal, my midwife changed multiple times, and I sensed that the medical approach to pregnancy was often rooted in fear and control rather than trust and empowerment. Conversations about interventions were framed as necessities rather than choices. When I expressed my desire for a home birth, I was met with resistance and uncertainty rather than support.
It became clear to me that if I wanted a pregnancy and birth experience that felt aligned with my values and intuition, I would need to step outside of the system.
Choosing a Different Path
After much research, reflection, and embodiment work, I made the decision to step away from NHS-led maternity care and instead work with a birth keeper—a professional who supports birth from a holistic, intuitive, and woman-centered perspective.
This decision was not made lightly. I acknowledge the privilege that comes with being able to make this choice and the deep personal responsibility it carries. However, what felt most important to me was that I was making this decision from a place of sovereignty, trust, and embodied knowing, rather than from fear or external pressure.
Birth as an Extension of Life
One of the most profound realizations I’ve had during this journey is the truth behind the saying, We birth how we live. The way I approach my pregnancy and birth mirrors how I navigate my life—by trusting my inner wisdom, making choices that align with my truth, and honoring my body’s needs.
Just as I’ve made unconventional choices in other areas of my life—whether in relationships, business, or personal growth—I see birth as another sacred initiation where I get to practice radical self-trust and autonomy.
Reclaiming Truth and Choice
One of the most challenging aspects of making alternative choices in pregnancy is navigating societal expectations. There is a strong narrative that prioritizes medical intervention and treats women as passive participants in their own birth experiences.
When I shared my perspective online, I received mixed responses. Some questioned my focus on self-trust, arguing that birth should be solely about the baby’s needs. But what I believe, and what embodiment teaches, is that the mother’s well-being and instincts are not separate from the baby’s. When we are fully connected to our bodies and our truth, we create an environment that supports both our own health and that of our child.
The Embodied Approach to Decision-Making
Throughout this journey, I’ve relied on embodiment practices to guide my decisions. Rather than outsourcing my choices to external authorities, I’ve turned inward, asking myself:
What feels right in my body?
Where do I feel resistance or discomfort, and what is that telling me?
Am I making choices from a place of fear, or from trust and empowerment?
These questions have helped me stay anchored in my truth, even when faced with doubt or external pushback.
Bringing Embodiment into Everyday Life
Embodiment isn’t just about pregnancy—it’s a way of being. Whether navigating career changes, relationships, or personal growth, the principles remain the same: deep listening, trust, and honoring what feels right for you.
This is why I guide women through a three-month journey called Recapture Your Truth, where we dismantle conditioning, reconnect with inner wisdom, and create lives that feel deeply aligned. The same principles I apply to pregnancy and birth can be applied to any major life transition.
Final Thoughts: Honoring Your Own Path
If you take one thing away from this post, let it be this: you have choices. No matter where you are in life, no matter what journey you’re navigating, you always have the ability to turn inward and ask, What is true for me?
Whether you choose a traditional medical route, a home birth, or something in between, what matters most is that you are making a choice that feels aligned with your truth—not out of fear, pressure, or external expectations.
